Discussion of children’s issues in the Fifth Parallel Report on the Situation of Children in Yemen
The consultative meeting of NGOs and competent authorities held in Sana’a today reviewed the issues of childhood and their inclusion in the Fifth Parallel Report on the situation of children in Yemen.
The meeting, organized by the Yemeni NGOs Coalition for Child Rights Care, discussed a working paper on the reality of children, the role of the Higher Council for Motherhood and Childhood (HCMC), the difficulties and obstacles, and the recommendations of the Committee on the Rights of the Child presented by the HCMC.
The meeting also discussed the recommendations of the Fourth Parallel Report on the rights of the child and the questionnaire on the situation of children and its objectives, which is to be conducted in the Capital Secretariat and the governorates of Hodeidah, Hajja, and Dhamar.
At the opening of the meeting, the General Coordinator of the Yemeni NGOs Coalition for Child Rights Care (YNGOC), Mr. Abdo Salah Al Harazi, addressed the great suffering faced by children in Yemen, including the threat of depriving them of education due to the targeting of schools, infrastructure and facilities for children and the suspension of salaries as well as damage to health facilities, which aggravated the suffering.
He stressed the need for concerted efforts to develop solutions in cooperation with local and international organizations and the government, pointing out that the Fifth Parallel Report on the reality of the child in Yemen focuses on the aspects of health, protection and education as the cornerstone of the reality and future of the children of Yemen.
Mr. Al Harazi expressed his hope that the international community will respond to Yemen and work to support and advocate for children. He also pointed to the implementation of 6 consultative meetings on the issues of children in the following governorates: Dhamar, Ibb, Taiz, Hodeida, Aden, and Mukalla.
